Pick Desuperheater

What is a Pick “Series DS” Desuperheater?

The water spray design of the Pick Desuperheater offers a simple, cost effective method of cooling steam to within 10°F of saturation.

The desuperheater is a water spray type with single nozzle. This design has limited turndown and is intended for applications having relatively constant steam flow and cooling water demand.

The spray nozzle is located in the center of the housing, providing axial injection in the direction of steam flow. A thermal sleeve isolates the main housing from contact with cooling water to prevent thermal stress and conical insert accelerates steam to promote turbulence and rapid absorption of cooling water.

It is custom designed and fabricated to meet customer specified diameter, material, flange rating, and MAWP.

Industries Include:

  • Refineries
  • Power Plants
  • Chemical & Petrochemical
  • Pulp & Paper Mills

Why Choose a Pick Desuperheater?

Simple Design

The Pick Desuperheater is designed to match existing steam line pipe diameter and flange rating. Cooling water is metered through the spray nozzle using a flow control valve, responding to a temperature feedback loop. There are no moving parts within the housing.

Easy to Install and Service

Designed to match customer’s piping system, the spray nozzle is easily removed through flanged opening in the top of the housing. Nozzles are sourced from major manufacturers and readily available.

How the Pick Desuperheater Works:

  1. Superheated steam enters the chamber here.
  2. Cooling water enters here.
  3. The thermal sleeve isolates housing from cooling water spray to prevent thermal stresses from being generated in the pipeline.
  4. Conditioned steam outlet.
